It is easy to assume that game streaming is a quick way to eliminate client-side attacks and reduce the effort required for cheat protection. While its design offers some inherent protection, game streaming also enables new client and network attacks. This talk will show which new attacks to expect, how to detect these new attacks and protect against them, independent of underlying game streaming technologies. The presented methods will also show how to effectively use data to create accurate detections and use cheat-resistant design principles.

Ferdinand Schober is a principal software engineer in Microsoft's Xbox Advanced Technology Group. He has been in the game industry for over 15 years, focusing on security, services, and networking across different platforms. Ferdinand worked on a variety of projects ranging from Xbox One and Series console launches, Windows multiplayer services, to security on the Gears of War and Halo franchises. He also spent time on academic research in cloud-based cellular malware detection and research in entertainment security analysis. Currently Ferdinand is focusing on cross-platform cloud services, networking, and security.

This brings new opportunities for connected gameplay, but also new security and privacy considerations.
