This will be pragmatic examples that can be used by developers to address the regulatory and market constraints in the western markets. A list of do’s and don’ts will be discussed at the end of the presentation so the audience will have an useful toolkit for future reference.

The Westernization of games can be a challenge for gaming companies.
This session will explore the various aspects of this challenge and offer suggestions to address them.
From bridging the cultural gap to finding the right business models for western economies (in terms of advertising or monetization mechanisms), the session will also address the challenge represented by the various regulations applicable to mobile games. Indeed, the definition of gambling in western countries, for example, can attract many social gaming product and question their structure and their business models. In addition, the pressure from the European Commission concerning in-app purchases and for the industry to self-regulate can make the navigation to western countries very difficult. The session will review a few success stories and identify the pitfalls game developers and gaming companies, more generally, should be aware of during the earliest phases of game development.

Diane Mullenex is a dual-qualified French lawyer and UK Solicitor, heading the international Gaming and Gambling practices. She is a partner at Pinsent Masons in London. She started her career in Singapore in 1994 and has worked in Asia, Europe, Africa and Middle East.
She specializes in and has extensive experience advising a wide range of clients in telecommunications, technology and other highly regulated industries, such as gaming and gambling. In particular, Diane specializes in complex multi-discipline, cross-border matters which have earned her the reputation as an expert in this field.
Diane is the Ex-Chair of the digital communication law committee of the International Bar Association and a member of the International Masters of Gaming law and the International Association of Gaming Advisors. She is also a Foreign Trade Advisor appointed by the French Government. She was awarded the Insignia of Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Write for her involvement in promoting the French TMT sector. Pinsent Masons is a Global-wide, Gaming & Gambling Band 2. One industry source said: "She is superb - her breadth of knowledge on international jurisdictional legislation is great."
